Tomorrow Belongs To Me

October 25, 2008

Alright – everyone excuse me for one second.  I know this blog is meant to detail the process and goings on of Edges but I need to detour for a second.

I’ve had the privilege of working on Cabaret at the Stratford Festival since last February and we have our closing today.  Since the beginning of September, I’ve been running back and forth between Stratford and Toronto (sometimes a hard feat when you don’t have a car….thank you again, Eric) to rehearse for Edges on my weekends and then head back to Strat to continue with my regular show week.

What a trip this has been!  Working at the Stratford Festival has been a wonderful experience – incredible talent and resources and community have made this a memorable 2008 season for me.  I’ve grown very attached to our cast and stage managers and dressers and crew and orchestra.  We’ve all been through a lot and we have a fantastic company who I will miss.

I am incredibly proud of the work of everyone involved.  A lot of risks were taken with this show and everyone jumped in fully committed and I am so proud of every one of our 118 shows that we performed.

I don’t think anyone but Sara reads these blogs – but if by chance my Cabaret family finds this: thank you for an incredible season.

“We have no troubles here.  The boys are beautiful.  The girls are beautiful.”

Alright – Cabaret done – back to Edges!  HOLY COW!!! Our first preview!!!! I know it’s been almost a week…I’m a bit slow commenting on it, but better late than never – right?  HOLY COW!!!!  It was so exciting!!  We had an incredible audience – so warm and supportive!  The energy and excitement was palpable.  We had a couple kinks to work out and a few more things to perfect (it’s a preview…we’re allowed to fix and change things until opening) – but I know all of us onstage had a great show.  It’s such incredible material to perform and I don’t take it for granted how fortunate I am to have been invited into this project.  It’s been over a year since the last incarnation of Edges and the growth and changes we have all experienced have made the material resonate more loudly in our own lives and performances.  While I’m a little sad Cabaret is ending, I’m excited that now I can fully 100% devote my time and energy and focus on Edges.

I’m rambling again (no surprise there)….what I meant to say was that our preview last Monday was amazing.  I was so overwhelmed by the response from everyone who came to see it.  Talking to people after the show, and the emails and facebook messages were so encouraging and uplifting.  I can’t wait for EVERYONE to see this show – and yes, I mean EVERYONE!!

If you’ve seen the show – tell your friends!  If you’re coming to see the show – bring your friends!  If you don’t want to come see the show – be my friend on Facebook and I’ll convince you to come see the show!!!  Come see the show – I may be biased, but I think we’re pretty awesome and I promise you that you’ll have a great night out!!

Alright – off to finish packing my Stratford apartment up.  I have a busy next couple of days what with Cabs closing and Edges opening, so I might not be back with an update….but just know the next blog will be a rambling hot mess all about EDGES OPENING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
